DERBY COMPETITION:
One-day tournament, Saturday, August 23, 2025. Official start at 7 a.m. Weigh-in closed at 5 p.m.
WEATHER:
Fish at your own discretion and risk. If Derby is cancelled due to weather or for any other reason – NO make-up day, NO refunds.
BAIT, TACKLE, AND LINE:
Live, artificial and natural bait permitted. Wire line allowed. No restrictions on line test. All fish must be caught on manual rod and reel (electric down-riggers and kite rods permitted).
VESSEL CHECKOUT:
Gentleman’s start. Fish from Hillsborough, Port Everglades or Haulover. Lines in at 7 a.m. Lines out at 4pm (fish landed after 4pm will not be counted) NO competitive fishing before 7am. Baitfish may be taken before official start. Fishing is limited to US territorial waters. No restrictions on travel distance.
OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN:
Weigh-in begins at 3pm. Remove all hooks from fish to be weighed. Boat must have bow and stern line ready and outriggers in up position before approaching dock. Weigh-in ends at 5 p.m. Boats must be in line directly in front of the IT Parker Center, Dania. If in route, radio communication does not constitute being recognized – only visual recognition by Committee member. Weigh Master may disqualify any fish for freshness and/or mutilation. In case of a tie, the first fish weighed-in wins. All fish must arrive by vessel and no transferring of fish at sea from vessel to vessel is allowed.
Junior angler’s fish may be included in vessel count or can be held separate, that choice will fall on the vessel to decide. Junior anglers’ fish must be identified on arrival at the dock before being weighed.
ELIGIBLE FISH:
Official Derby fish are Mahi, Kingfish, Wahoo, and Black fin/Yellowfin tuna. Largest fish to be determined by weight only. All fish will be returned to angler. All fish must be brought to the dock by the boat on which it was caught and the boat must bring the fish to the dock under its own power.
Each boat may choose 3 mahi to be weighed for official ranking. We will not weigh all the fish to determine the heaviest 3.
Largest Mahi may be included in 3 mahi aggregate. It will be the heaviest of the 3 mahi weighed and added to that vessels official result
Largest single wahoo, kingfish and tuna will be determined by weight. In case of any tie the winner will be the first boat to weigh in. Weight will be determined by digital scale. Only LEGAL-SIZE fish will be weighed. All anglers MUST follow state and federal fishing laws.
RADIO COMMUNICATION:
VHF Channel 72 (if 72 becomes unavailable use Channel 70 as an alternate).
SAFETY:
Each Captain and all anglers accept responsibility and liability for their own safety and the safety of their boat.

- 4 people and 4 shirts are included in boat registration
- Junior anglers pay $100.00 additional
- $50.00 each for additional people (no spectators)
